BritBox will extend its service into Canada in early 2018, marking the on-demand streaming service’s first step beyond the United States. The move also expands the variety of streaming services that Canadians can enjoy.

“It has been incredible to see the response to BritBox in the U.S.,” said BritBox president said Soumya Sriraman. “Soon Canadians will have the opportunity to access the largest streaming collection of British television available.”

Best of British TV

The BBC and ITV joined forces in 2016 to bring the most recent British TV programming to streaming audiences in the US through Britbox.

BritBox offers a deep catalog of TV shows dating back decades. That includes the largest collection of Doctor Who episodes on the web, plus period dramas and documentaries.

The shows that Canadians will soon have access to include Idris Ilba’s Five by Five and Emmy-nominated drama Reg. Many shows will be available in Canada within twenty-four hours after they air in Britain.

At launch, the Canadian service will be available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast as well as through the as-yet unlaunched BritBox Canada website.

Today’s pre-announcement did not provide a specific launch date or pricing for the Canadian service. American BritBox customers currently pay US$6.99 per month after a seven-day free trial.
