We highly recommend using a VPN when using Kodi. Kodi users have been known to receive copyright infringement notices for streaming movies, sports, and TV shows through various addons. If you would like to keep your streaming habits private, our recommendation is IPVanish – a complete privacy solution for Kodi users. It’s also worth noting that purchasing a 12 month subscription will give you two months free.
How To Install Kodi On Leelbox Android TV Boxes
Installing Kodi on Leelbox is very easy, because it can be installed directly from the Google Play Store. Here’s what you’ll need to do to install Kodi.
Begin by navigating to the main menu of your Leelbox Android TV box, as seen in the below screenshot.
Next, select My Apps. As you can see, the Google Play icon is in the main menu of our Leelbox, but this will not always be the case for all users. You’ll see the below interface after selecting My Apps
Select Play Store to access the Google Play Store. You’ll see the following screen.
Select the search bar on the top of the menu, and enter Kodi, as seen in the below screenshot. You should see Kodi pop up in the drop-down menu, and you can select it directly from there.
Next, you’ll choose to INSTALL Kodi, using the menu option on the right-hand side of the screen.
Select INSTALL. You’ll see the following screen. You’ll need to press ACCEPT to continue.
After you’ve accepted Kodi’s permissions, the app will begin downloading and installing from the Google Play Store, as seen below.
The download is about 71MB, so it may take a little while if you have a slower internet connection. Once the download is complete, you can choose to OPEN Kodi directly from the Google Play menu. A shortcut to Kodi will also be created in the My Apps section of your Leelbox Android TV box.
Press OPEN to open Kodi, or navigate back to the main menu and select it from My Apps. Regardless of the method you choose, you’ll see the following screen:
As you can see, Kodi on Android TV is nearly identical to the Windows and Mac OS X versions, and it has all of the same functionality.
That’s it! You’ve successfully installed Kodi on your Leelbox Android TV box! However, just installing Kodi isn’t enough. If you’re a Kodi user, you’ll know that the true power of Kodi comes from third-party add-ons.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Kodi “repositories” are online locations where developers upload and store Kodi add-ons.
Think of these repositories as central “hubs”, where developers upload all of the add-ons they’re working on.
From Kodi repositories, you can download and install a tremendous variety of different Kodi add-ons. This process can be a bit confusing if you’re new to Kodi, so we’ll walk you through it now.
Begin by opening up Kodi on your Leelbox Android TV box, as shown below.
Next, navigate to the Settings menu, indicated by the gear icon that’s highlighted above. You’ll see the following screen. Select System Settings, indicated by the gear with the screwdriver.
Next, select Add-ons from the left-side menu.
Here, you’ll want to toggle Unknown sources on. Make sure that the toggle switch is white, as shown in the above screenshot – not grayed out. If you skip this step, you won’t be able to install third-party Kodi add-ons.
After you’ve enabled unknown sources, return to the settings menu, as seen in the screenshot below.
Select File Manager to continue. This is where you will be managing your Kodi repositories.
Here, you’ll see all of the Kodi repositories that you have installed. In our case, we’ve got the Colossus Repo and Super Repo installed. Your Leelbox will likely only have two options – Profile directory and Add source. Select Add source to continue.
Select <None>. This is where you will enter the URL of the Kodi repository that you will be accessing. For the purposes of this guide, we’ll be installing the Noobs and Nerds (NaN) Repo, one of the most popular Kodi repositories. You will need to enter the URL for your selected repo. In this case, that’s http://noobsandnerds.com/portal
After you’ve entered the URL, feel free to enter a custom name for the repo. This will help you keep track of the different repositories you install. We’ll go with Noobs and Nerds Repo.
Select OK to continue and add Noobs and Nerds as a repo. Next, head back to the Kodi main menu. Choose Add-ons in the left-hand menu.
Next, you’ll want to navigate to the Package Installer, which is indicated by the “open box” icon in the left-hand menu, as seen in this screenshot.
In the next menu, select Install from zip file. This is where we’ll install the Noobs and Nerds repository.
Select Noobs and Nerds Repo from this menu. Press OK to continue. NOTE: If you named your repository something else in the previous step, it will be listed under that name.
Select noobsandnerds Repo (2.3.0).zip. Press OK to install it. NOTE: Your filename may not match this exactly. As more add-ons are added, the version numbers will likely change in the future.
The repository will install itself, and you’ll see a pop-up message indicating that the installation was successful.
That’s it! You’ve now successfully installed the Noobs and Nerds Repository. You’re only a few steps away from installing tons of great Kodi add-ons.
What are the best Kodi repositories?
Ah, this question has been asked ever since third-party add-ons were introduced. To be honest, it’s hard to choose.
There are literally hundreds of active Kodi repositories. Not only that, many of these repos contain other repositories – like a Russian nesting doll!
However, there are a few repositories that have been very reliable in the past, and provide access to some great video, music, and customization add-ons.
Here are a few of our recommendations for the best Kodi repositories:
Why isn’t my selected repository working?
If your selected repository is not working, the URL at which it’s hosted may no longer be active, due to legal action or the repository simply being taken down.
Unfortunately, many Kodi repositories get shut down regularly. Some Kodi add-ons host copyrighted content, and the organizations that host these add-ons are frequently targeted by legal action.
For example, TVAddons was a very popular Kodi repository, until it was temporarily shut down last summer due to copyright infringement charges. This resulted in quite a stir in the Kodi community, as many popular add-ons were no longer available.
However, the good news is that most Kodi add-ons are hosted on multiple repositories. With a little research, you can probably find an alternative repository for whatever add-on you want to install.
It’s also possible that you entered the URL incorrectly. Make sure there are no additional spaces at the end of the URL, and that it matches the provided URL perfectly.
Installing Kodi add-ons
Installing Kodi add-ons is quite simple, now that you’ve got Noobs and Nerds installed. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
From the Kodi main menu, select Add-ons. Then, select the Package Installer indicated by the open box icon, as you did when installing the Noobs and Nerds Repo.
Choose install from repository on the next screen. Here, you can access all of your Kodi repositories and download third-party add-ons.
Select noobsandnerds repository, as seen in the below screenshot.
From here, you can access all of the add-ons and repos that Noobs and Nerds has to offer.
You can change the look and feel of Kodi with custom skins and add-ons, and download a variety of useful utilities and programs. In addition, you can go to the Add-on repository to download a number of other repositories that are included in Noobs and Nerds.
For our purposes, we’ll just install a basic video add-on, so select Video Add-ons from this menu now.
You can download any add-on you’d like. We’ve chosen the BBC iPlayer.
This Kodi add-on is perfectly legal, as it simply streams content directly from the BBC iPlayer website. However, you will need a BBC iPlayer account and a UK IP to view these shows.
Next, simply press Install on the next menu to add this add-on to your Leelbox Android TV box. Installation should only take a few seconds. Next, head on back to the Kodi main menu, and select Add-ons once more. All of the add-ons that you download will be available here.
That’s it! You’ve installed your first Kodi video add-on. The process is pretty much the same for every Kodi add-on and repository, so take a few moments to download some video add-ons and familiarize yourself with the process!
Are Kodi add-ons legal?
Some Kodi add-ons are legal, but some are not.
Kodi add-ons are not developed by the official Kodi team, but by independent developers.
Many third-party developers build Kodi add-ons that are used to stream perfectly legitimate content. For example, add-ons like the BBC iPlayer add-on, FilmON, and USTVNOW are totally legitimate.
The BBC iPlayer streams free content directly from the BBC website, and FilmOn is free to use and streams licensed, legitimate content, and USTVNow requires a subscription to work on Kodi.
However, there are other Kodi add-ons that violate copyright laws. These add-ons stream things like recently-released movies and TV shows, as well as sporting events and other copyrighted content. Using these Kodi add-ons is illegal, and you can get in legal trouble for doing so.
Because of this, we recommend that you use a VPN such as IPVanish when using Kodi on your Leelbox Android TV box. A VPN protects and encrypts your network traffic. This allows you to access legitimate, official Kodi streams without worrying about accidentally streaming copyrighted content from third-party add-ons.
Why isn’t my Kodi add-on working?
If your selected Kodi add-on isn’t working, there are some basic troubleshooting steps you can take.
First, make sure that Kodi has been updated to the latest version. If you’re running an outdated version of Kodi, compatibility with newer add-ons may break.
You should also check to make sure that you’re running the latest version of your selected add-on. If your add-ons need to be updated, you can do so from the main menu of Kodi.
The “arrow” button in the below screenshot will be illuminated, and the number to the right of it will indicate how many add-ons need to be updated.
If neither of these options work, things get a bit more tricky. Every Kodi add-on is different, so there is no universal troubleshooting method. We recommend doing some Googling to find if anyone else is having the same issue, and to see if they were able to restore functionality.
There is also the chance that your selected add-on may be old and unsupported – so it might just not work at all. This is the case for many older add-ons such as Exodus.
