With Major League Baseball back in action, fans of the New York Yankees want to know where they can stream this year’s games. Flixed’s guide to streaming Yankees baseball will answer all of your questions.

Which Channels Stream Yankees Baseball?

Your first step when deciding which streaming service is best for watching the Yankees is to identify which channels you need to get. Over the course of the regular season, 24 Yankees games will be nationally televised on ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1, TBS and the MLB Network.

Even though Fox is a national network, you may or may not be able to get its live stream. That’s because the local Fox stations don’t always have deals with every streaming service. You will need to check Fox availability before paying for a subscription.

Another 128 Yankees games will be televised on the YES Network. This is a sports channel available to cable TV subscribers in the New York region. Most streaming services also treat the YES Network as a regional sports channel. The only exception is PlayStation Vue which includes it in an add-on package.

Streaming Services for Yankees Fans

fuboTV

watch FuboTV

Of the seven networks that will broadcast Yankees games, fuboTV only offers Fox, FS1 and TBS nationally. People who live in the New York region will get the YES Network.

Channels and packages

You can choose between the 85-channel fubo plan and the 105-channel fubo Extra plan. Paying extra doesn’t get Yankees fans anything, but does let you watch some extra lifestyle and news channels.

Features and extras

The cloud DVR that fuboTV includes with its subscriptions will support thirty hours of recording. You can inflate that to five hundred hours by paying an extra $10 per month.

Only two devices can stream fuboTV at the same time. Adding a third device will cost you another $6 per month.

  • Living room devices: Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Devices based on Fire TV, Roku and Android TV.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: None.
  • Desktop browsers: fuboTV recommends Chrome.

Sling TV lets Yankees fans watch the nationally-broadcast games on ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1 and TBS. The YES Network is only available for subscribers living in the New York region.

Channels and packages

Sling TV likes to advertise their low price subscription plans. The only way to get all of the Yankees games is by subscribing to both the Sling Orange and the Sling Blue plans.

Sling Orange Sling Blue Sling Orange + Blue
Price $25 $25 $40
Channels 30+ 40+ 50+
Simultaneous Streams 1 3 4*

* You get one stream with Sling Orange and up to 3 simultaneous streams with Sling Blue.

Features and extras

You have to pay $5 per month extra to get a cloud DVR with your Sling TV subscription. It only lets you record fifty hours of programming.

Simultaneous streaming with Sling TV is complicated. Sling Orange only supports a single stream. Sling Blue supports up to three simultaneous streams. When somebody streams the Disney Channel, you won’t be able to watch the Yankees play on ESPN.

The variety of devices with Sling TV apps is a major benefit of the service. With the exception of PlayStation owners, just about anyone will be able to stream Sling TV.

  • Living room devices: Azulle Mini PC Sticks, Air TV Player, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku and Xaomi Mi TV.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Models based on Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. Also, certain models from LG and Samsung.

Hulu with Live TV

watch hulu with live tv

Subscriptions for Hulu with Live TV include ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1 and TBS. New Yorkers will get the YES Network. The MLB Network is not an option.

Channels and packages

Hulu with Live TV’s standard $45 subscription plan includes more than fifty broadcast and basic cable channels. You also get access to the streaming service’s huge library of on-demand content. An added perk is the ability to remove ads from the on-demand shows by paying another $4 per month.

Features and extras

The cloud DVR comes standard with fifty hours of capacity. An extra $15 per month will bump that up to two hundred hours and let you fast forward through commercials.

You can upgrade the standard two device streaming limit to three devices by paying another $15 per month. To save money, you can get both upgrades for just $20 per month.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Certain Samsung and LG televisions as well as some devices based on Amazon Fire TV or Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
  • Desktop browsers: Most browsers.

DirecTV Now

watch directv now

DirecTV Now subscriptions can include every channel that carries Yankees games. The YES Network is only available to New Yorkers.

Channels and packages

DirecTV Now takes a tiered approach to its subscription plans. You get more channels with the more expensive subscription plans. For Yankees fans, the entry-level Live a Little plan comes with everything except the MLB Network. You will have to step up to the Just Right plan for that.

  • Live a Little: 65+ channels / $40 per month.
  • Just Right: 85+ channels / $55 per month.
  • Go Big: 105+ channels / $65 per month.
  • Gotta Have It: 125+ channels / $75 per month.
  • Todo y Más: 90+ spanish-language channels / $45 per month.

Features and extras

Although DirecTV Now is still testing its cloud DVR, every subscriber gets it as a beta feature. The 20 hours of recording capacity makes it relatively weak compared to other services.

The two-device simultaneous streaming limit can be upgraded to three devices by paying another $5 per month.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Samsung and Amazon Fire TV televisions.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: None, but Xbox One support is “coming soon”.
  • Desktop browsers: DirecTV Now only streams to Chrome and Safari browsers. With Internet Explorer and Firefox, you can only manage your settings.

PlayStation Vue

watch PlayStation Vue

All of the national networks that carry Yankees games this season are available through PlayStation Vue as is the YES Network.

Channels and packages

Paying for more expensive subscription plans will get you more channels. Most of the channels that Yankees fans care about will be part of the Access plan. New Yorkers will want to step up to the Core plan since this adds regional sports channels like the YES Network.

  • Access: 45+ channels for $45 per month.
  • Core: 70+ channels for $50 per month.
  • Elite: 94 channels for $60 per month.
  • Ultra: 96 channels for $80 per month.

Unlike many of the other streaming services, PlayStation Vue lets all of its subscribers get the YES Network. You will need to subscribe to the Sports Pack for $10 per month. Besides adding the out-of-market feed from the YES Network, this upgrade adds dozens of other regional sports channels, NBCSN and more.

Features and extras

You don’t have to buy upgrades to get better features on the PlayStation Vue. Features that would be premiums on other services are standard. That includes an unlimited cloud DVR as well as a five-device limit on simultaneous streaming.

  • Living room devices: Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Televisions based on Amazon Fire TC, Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android, Amazon Fire Tablets and iOS.
  • Game consoles: PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

YouTube TV

watch youtube tv

ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1, TBS and the MLB Network are all standard parts of the YouTube TV channel lineup. The YES Network is only available to New Yorkers.

Channels and packages

YouTube TV has only one $40-per-month subscription plan which gives you a sixty-channel lineup.

You can add more channels by purchasing premium subscriptions. This is done on an à-la-carte basis, so the costs will quickly add up. Fox Soccer Plus, for example, costs $15 per month while the NBA League Pass by itself will double your monthly bill.

YouTube TV’s greatest strength is support for the national broadcast channels’ local affiliates. You’re more likely to get your local ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC channels with YouTube TV than any other service.

Features and extras

Like PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV’s cloud DVR is unlimited. Even better, each person in the household gets their own cloud DVR. You can create up to six user profiles with their own recommendations and viewing history.

Streaming support is the only place you run into limits on the YouTube TV experience. You only get three simultaneous streams — even if you have six user profiles. In addition, the on-going feud between Google and Amazon means YouTube TV is not available on Amazon Echo or Fire TV platforms.

  • Living room devices: Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: Certain models from HiSense, LG, Samsung and Sharp as well as televisions based on Android TV and Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: Xbox One.
  • Desktop browsers: Chrome.
Stream Yankees Baseball on MLB.TV

MLB.TV lets you live stream just about every team in the country with one exception — you can’t watch your hometown team due to blackout restrictions. If you live anywhere near New York City, your subscription will let you watch every other team in the major leagues except the Yankees (or the Mets). Yankees fans who live in the rest of the country will get full access to the Yankees home and away games.

For Yankees fans living outside the United States and Canada, MLB.TV is going to be your best option. The blackout restrictions won’t apply so you get to watch every team play every game. However, international support varies by streaming device so be sure to check the MLB.TV support

Plans and coverage

MLB.TV’s two subscription plans let you watch most regular-season games for a single team or all MLB teams. The single-team subscription costs $92 per year. The all team subscription costs $25 per month or $119 for a full year. Note that the subscription auto-renews every March 1 at whatever pricing is set for the new season.

No matter which plan you subscribe to, you can watch live streams of all 300 pre-season games. You also get on-demand access to completed games without blackout restrictions. Ninety minutes after the game ends, it will appear in the on-demand library.

Postseason gameplay is not part of the MLB.TV subscription. However, you may still get access by entering the credentials from a streaming TV service that carries Fox or the MLB Network. The MLB will offer a separate subscription, called Postseason.TV, so you can buy access to the playoffs and the World Series.

Blackout rules

MLB.TV will black out games based on where you live. Houstonians won’t be able to watch most games played by the Astros or the Texas Rangers. Even though Portland, Oregon, doesn’t have an MLB franchise, Portlandians won’t be able to watch most Seattle Mariners games. If you live in Guam, you won’t be allowed to watch the Giants or the Athletics play.

Blackouts may also apply when a national network carries a game. For the most part, that means the weekend games shown on ESPN.

Another kind of blackout may occur if two teams are tied at the end of the regular season. No MLB.TV subscribers will be allowed to live stream the “play-in” game that decides who goes into the playoffs.

None of these blackout rules apply to the radio broadcast available through the MLB’s At Bat app.

Features

The MLB.TV subscription lets you watch games through the MLB website, the MLB.TV App or through the At Bat app on a variety of devices.

  • Living room devices: MLB.TV app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Sticks and Roku.
  • Smart TVs and Blu-ray players: MLB.TV app for certain Samsung televisions and devices based on certain versions of Amazon Fire TV, Android TV or Roku.
  • Mobile devices and tablets: At Bat app for Amazon Fire tablets, Android and iOS.
  • Game consoles: MLB.TV app for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
  • Desktop browsers: Most browsers.

Many of these devices will support 60 frames-per-second video, letting you catch all of the action without a dropped frame. On mobile, 60fps video is limited to recent iPhones and iPads. The Roku and Chromecast streaming sticks support the higher frame rates, as do the PlayStation and Xbox game consoles.

Apple TV 4 owners will be the first to get MLB’s new Catch-Up feature. When you join a game in progress, you’ll get a 90-second recap of the major plays you’ve missed.

The apps on all devices have live playback controls that let you pause and rewind to create DIY replays. You can then fast forward to get back to the game in progress.

Subscribers to the All Teams plan can choose between the home or away feeds. The Multi View feature lets you watch as many as four games at the same time.

The subscriptions also offer several audio options. You can stream the home or away radio broadcasts with Spanish-language versions where available. If you like your team’s radio presenters better than the TV presenters, you can play the radio audio while watching the TV video.

The main interactive feature is Pitchcast which lets you track the pitcher’s every throw. You can see how he changes the type, speed and location of his pitches as different hitters step up to the plate.
