Disney XD is one of the most popular channels for kids, offering a number of made-for-TV films, original shows, and reruns from the Disney Channel. If you’re looking for a way your kids can watch Disney XD without cable, you’re in the right place.

It used to be that a traditional cable package was the only way to get Disney XD, but thanks to the rise of Internet TV services like Sling TV, YouTube TV and DirecTV Now, this is no longer the case.

In this article, we’ll explore your top 6 options for watching Disney XD without cable, so that you and your kids can get the entertainment you need without spending an arm and a leg on a pricey cable or satellite bill.

watch disney xd without cable sling tv

Sling TV, which is now owned by DISH Network, is the oldest internet TV service out there. It was founded way back in 2015 and focused on an “a la carte” TV experience. This dedication to picking and choosing your favorite channels continues to this day, as Sling TV offers plenty of channel flexibility. Learn if it’s the right option for you to watch Disney XD without cable now.

Channels and packages

Sling TV comes in two primary packages, Sling Orange and Sling Blue. Both will cost you $25, but you can combine both packages with Sling Orange + Blue for $40/month. There is a good amount of channel overlap between Blue and Orange, though, so you’ll be paying for some channels twice.

Sling Orange Sling Blue Sling Orange + Blue
Price $25 $25 $40
Channels 30+ 40+ 50+
Simultaneous Streams 1 3 4*
ESPN Yes No Yes
Fire TV Support Yes Yes Yes
Roku Support Yes Yes Yes

* You get one stream with Sling Orange and up to 3 simultaneous streams with Sling Blue.

To get Disney XD, you’ll need to subscribe to the Sling Orange package, which has exclusive access to Disney-owned channels like ESPN and Disney Channel. However, Disney XD is not included in Sling Orange by default. You’ll need to pony up an additional $5/month for the “Kids Extra” add-on package, which includes Disney XD, Disney Junior, Nick Jr, Nicktoons, TeenNick, Boomerang, and more.

Despite its low cost, Sling TV may not be the best choice, to watch Disney XD if your family watches a lot of TV. Why?

The biggest issue is simultaneous streaming. While Sling Blue lets you stream on 3 devices at once, it doesn’t have Disney-owned channels, and Sling Orange only allows you to stream on a single device at once. Yes, just one. That means if your kid is watching Disney XD, you can’t watch anything else using your Sling Orange subscription.

In addition, a DVR is not included with your subscription by default. If you want a DVR, you’ll have to pay an extra $5/month. In return, you’ll get 50 hours of cloud storage, which should be plenty for most cord-cutters.

However, if you get the DVR, that bumps your price up to $35/month for just a single stream. You can see why this may not be the best choice if you want to replace your cable subscription.

On a brighter note, though, Sling TV has good device support. You can watch Disney XD on your iOS or Android devices, web browser, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV, as well as some smart TVs from LG and Samsung, and the Xbox One.

If you’d like to give it a try, you can get a free trial at the Sling website now, and see if it’s right for you and your family.

watch disney xd without cable hulu with live tv

Hulu + Live TV is the live TV streaming arm of Hulu. Live TV was launched back in 2017 and has quickly become a popular choice for cord-cutters. If you want to watch Disney XD without cable, it should definitely be one of your top contenders.

Channels and packages

One of the main selling points of Hulu + Live TV is that the base-tier $45/month subscription includes full access to the Hulu on-demand service, which is a value of about $6/month. You can also get a $51/month subscription which will remove ads from the on-demand service. You’ll still have to watch ads while watching live TV, though.

If you already have Hulu on-demand, Hulu + Live TV may just be the best way to watch Disney XD without cable. You’ll get Disney XD as part of your subscription, as well as Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and Universal Kids.

Hulu + Live TV has pretty standard features. You’ll be able to stream on 2 devices at once with your subscription and record up to 50 hours of content with a cloud DVR, at no extra cost.

Interestingly, though, Hulu + Live TV is upgradeable. With the $10/month Unlimited Screens package, you can watch on unlimited devices inside your home network, and on up to 3 at once outside of your network. You can also quadruple your DVR space with the $10/month Enhanced DVR package, boosting it to 200 hours. Finally, you have the option of combining both of these upgrades for a $15/month fee.

Hulu + Live TV also has, arguably, the best platform support of any internet TV service out there. You can watch it on iOS and Android devices, as well as your web browser, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One and 360, and some LG and Samsung Smart TVs. Hulu + Live TV is also the only streaming service that currently supports the Nintendo Switch.

watch disney xd without cable youtube tv

YouTube TV is Google’s attempt to join the ever-more-competitive internet TV market, and it’s a good one. YouTube TV combines great features with a rock-solid selection of channels and a competitive price. Get the details now, and see if YouTube TV is the best choice for watching Disney XD without cable.

Channels and packages

YouTube TV keeps things simple. You can add a few premium channels like Showtime and CuriosityStream, but there is only one channel package to choose from, which costs $40/month and offers 60+ channels, depending on your area.

For your money, you’ll get Disney XD, as well as the main Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Cartoon Network. You also get plenty of sports, entertainment, news, and local broadcast channels.

YouTube TV has an excellent channel lineup but truly distinguishes itself with its features. Let’s start with the cloud DVR, which is the best in the business – bar none.

You can record unlimited content for up to 9 months with the YouTube TV cloud DVR. There are no limitations otherwise, and your content will only be deleted after 9 months is up. This is better than any other internet TV service.

Simultaneous streams are better-than-average too. You can stream on 3 devices at once for no additional fee, which is better than every other service on our list, except for PlayStation Vue.

And while device support used to be somewhat lacking for YouTube TV, it’s become much better over the last year or so. You can stream on iOS and Android devices and on the Chrome web browser, as well as Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, and the Xbox One, as well as Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Hisense, VIZIO, and Sharp. There is no support for Amazon Fire devices, though.

how to watch disney xd without cable playstation vue

PlayStation Vue is one of the best ways to watch Disney XD without cable if you have a large family, thanks to its great features and consistent performance. It’s a bit pricier than the competition, however.

Channels and packages

PlayStation Vue gives you four channel packages to choose from, based on your budget and the number of channels you need, as follows:

  • Access – 45+ channels, $45/month
  • Core – 60+ channels, $50/month
  • Elite – 84+ channels, $60/month
  • Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month

To get Disney XD, you’ll only need the cheapest, $45/month Access plan, which will also get you Disney, Disney Junior, Cartoon Network, and Animal Planet, as well as plenty of other entertainment, sports, and news channels. It’s a good overall package, though it has fewer channels than other similarly-priced plans from other internet TV providers like Hulu and YouTube TV.

PlayStation Vue has good overall features, particularly when it comes to simultaneous streaming. You can stream on up to 5 devices at once, which is better than any other service on this list – with the exception of Hulu + Live TV + Unlimited Screens, which costs an additional fee. You’ll never run into simultaneous streaming issues with PlayStation Vue while watching Disney XD.

You can also create up to 10 user accounts with PlayStation Vue, which is great for families. Each user can record as much content as they want, as PlayStation Vue includes a 28-day unlimited cloud DVR.

As far as platform support goes, it won’t shock you to find out that both the PlayStation 3 and 4 are supported. More surprisingly, though, Vue works on a multitude of other devices, such as iOS and Android devices, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV.

watch disney xd without cable directv now

DirecTV Now is owned by AT&T and began as an attempt to reclaim cord-cutters who have been ditching cable in record numbers over the last few years. It offers a good selection of channels at a reasonable price but is limited when it comes to features and platform support.

Channels and packages

Like PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now lets you choose between a selection of four different packages, as follows:

  • Live A Little – 65+ channels, $40/month
  • Just Right – 85+ channels, $55/month
  • Go Big – 105+ channels, $65/month
  • Gotta Have It  – 125+ channels, $75/month

To get Disney XD, you’ll only need to subscribe to the $40/month Live A Little package, which also includes Disney Junior, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network, as well as Nick Jr. and Nick at Nite.

If you upgrade to one of the pricier packages, you can get a few more kid-friendly channels, like Nicktoons, Boomerang, and the Discovery Family Channel, just to name a few. DirecTV Now’s upgraded packages are a bit pricey, but give you plenty for your money.

DirecTV Now has always lagged behind the competition when it comes to features. By way of example, the service lacked DVR functionality entirely until mid-to-late 2018, when all other internet TV services either included a free cloud DVR with their service or at least offered it as a paid add-on.

Today, DirecTV Now does have a cloud DVR, but it’s the worst one in the industry. You can record only 20 hours of content, and it’s automatically deleted after 30 days.

Simultaneous streaming is a bit better, though. You can stream on 2 devices at once, which is better than Sling Orange and equal to Hulu + Live TV, and add a third stream for an extra $5/month fee.

Platform support is okay, but nothing to write home about. DirecTV Now checks all the major boxes, with support for iOS and Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV.

DisneyNOW Website & Apps

how to watch disney xd without cable disneynow go apps website

Want some more flexibility when it comes to watching Disney XD without cable? If you subscribe to one of the above services, you can also watch Disney XD live on the Disney website, or on the DisneyNOW apps, which is available for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Apple TV, and Roku.

How? Just sign in with your internet TV login. Hulu + Live TV, PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, and DirecTV Now all let you use your subscription just like you would use a traditional cable subscription, so you can watch Disney XD without cable on the DisneyNOW app and website.

Interestingly, Sling TV does not support this functionality. We have no idea why – but this is definitely something you should take into consideration when choosing a streaming service for Disney XD.

Why bother using DisneyNOW at all? The primary benefit is that using the DisneyNOW website or all does not count against your simultaneous streams.

In other words, if you have DirecTV Now, and your kid wants to watch Disney XD, they can watch in on DisneyNOW and two of your other family members can still use your DirecTV Now subscription, without worrying about going over the 2-stream limit.

This is a nice way to get some extra flexibility and ensure that the whole family is happy when it’s time to sit down for some TV time.
