Galavision, owned by Univision, is one of the most popular Spanish-language channels in the US and the rest of North and Central America – and is particularly well-known for its dramatic “telenovelas.”

If you’ve cut the cord and you’re worried that you may not be able watch Galavision without cable, you’re in the right place. In this article, we’ll discuss your top options for watching this cable network without a pricey monthly cable bill! Let’s get started.

fubotv watch galavision without cable top options

fuboTV is definitely the best way to watch Galavision without cable if you’re also a soccer fan looking for both English and Spanish-language broadcasts of top-flight soccer leagues from around the world. Beyond its focus on international sports, fuboTV also offers wide range of other Spanish and English-language channels.

Channels and pricing

fuboTV gives you three primary channel packages to choose from.

If you want to watch Galavision without cable, and are also interested in English-language channels, the fubo and fubo Extra packages are the best option. You’ll get Galavision in both packages, as well as a number of other Spanish-language channels like Univision, NBC Universo, and Unimas. You also get plenty of English-language programming and sports networks, like Fox Sports, Eleven Sports, and eight beIN Sports channels, as well as NBC Sports.

If you primarily watch Spanish-language channels like Galavision, you can opt for the cheaper $25/month fubo Latino package. With this package, you’ll get Galavision as well as beIN Sports and beIN Sports ñ, Fox Deportes, Univision, Unimas, GOLTV SPanish, CNN en Espanol, FOXLife, and Nat Geo Mundo, for a total of 15+ channels. You can add the Entretenimiento Plus package to get even more Spanish-language channels, including Ritmoson, Tlnovelas, and Bandamax, for an additional $4.99/month.

Overall, fubo TV offers a good variety of Spanish-language channels, both in the fubo and fubo Extra packages, and in the fubo Latino package, so it’s a good way to watch Galavision without cable.

Features

fuboTV has pretty good features. You’ll get the same standard features in the fubo, fubo Extra, and fubo Latino packages. This includes a cloud DVR, which can be used to record up to 30 hours of content. If that is not enough space for you, you can pay a $10/month fee for a DVR upgrade, which will net you an absurd 500 hours of DVR space – enough for 250 soccer matches.

If you forget to record a show, you’ll also be able to make use of the “Lookback” feature, which lets you view most shows and sporting events up to 72 hours after they were originally aired. This is a nice bonus for those who may sometimes forget to set their DVR.

As far as simultaneous streams go, fuboTV provides users with the industry-standard 2 device streaming policy. If you’d like to stream on more devices, you can add a $6/month “Family Share” add-on which bumps your concurrent streams to 3. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s nice to have the option.

Another nice benefit of fuboTV is that 40 channels support 60fps streaming, which is particularly beneficial when watching soccer games and other sporting events.

Device support for fuboTV is also really good. You can watch Galavision without cable on your laptop or your iOS and Android devices when you’re on the go. When you’re at home, you can choose between the Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.

If you’d like to try fuboTV, you can get a free week-long trial of any of their channel packages through their website.

FuboTV Shortcode

DirecTV Now is owned by AT&T and is a reasonably good way to watch Galavision without cable. Its features are not quite as good as fuboTV, and it doesn’t have as many Spanish channels, but it does have a better lineup of English channels. Here’s what you need to know about DirecTV Now.

Channels and pricing

You’ll be able to choose between four channel packages when subscribing to DirecTV Now, based on your budget and how many channels you’d like to receive.

  • Live A Little – 65+ channels, $40/month
  • Just Right – 85+ channels, $55/month
  • Go Big – 105+ channels, $65/month
  • Gotta Have It  – 125+ channels, $75/month

If you want to watch Galavision without cable, you’ll only need the cheapest, $40/month Live A Little package. This package includes Galavision as well as Univision. If you upgrade to the Just RIght package, you’ll also get UniMas. The Go Big package includes NBC Universo, and if you spring for the highest-priced Gotta Have It package, you’ll get Univision Deportes.

Overall, DirecTV Now has a better selection of English-language sports and entertainment channels than fuboTV, but if you want major Spanish-language channels, you’ll pay a lot more for a lot less than you would get with the fubo or fubo Latino packages.

Features

When it comes to features, DirecTV Now is a bit disappointing compared to fuboTV and other leading internet TV services like Sling TV – particularly when it comes to the DirecTV Now DVR.

Until the middle of 2018, DirecTV Now didn’t have a DVR at all – even for an extra fee – despite the fact that all of their competitors offered a cloud DVR.

Now, though, all DirecTV Now subscribers get a DVR, but it’s a bit disappointing, to say the least. You can store 20 hours of content, and there is a 30-day time restriction, after which your recordings are deleted whether you’ve watched them or not.

On the bright side, like fuboTV, DirecTV Now offers 72-hour lookback which is available for Galavision and UniMas. That feature helps make up for the poor DVR. However, it’s not usable on all channels.

DirecTV Now also has good device coverage, on-par with most other internet TV services. You can stream in your web browser and on modern iOS/Android devices, as well as the Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Apple TV, and Roku.

The Univision NOW Website and Apps

If you have a subscription to fuboTV or DirecTV Now, we’ve got some good news! You can also watch Galavision using the Univision NOW website, or through the Univision NOW App, which is available for iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast.

All you have to do is sign in using your login information for fuboTV or DirecTV Now. Your login will function just like a cable login would, allowing you to watch Galavision without cable using your internet TV provider information.

What’s the benefit of doing this? The primary reason you may want to use the Univision NOW website or app is because it won’t count against your simultaneous streams when you use DirecTV Now or fuboTV.

In other words, if two of your family members are watching content using your DirecTV Now subscription, you normally wouldn’t be able to watch Galavision without cable – unless you kick someone off. However, if you log into the Univision Now website or app, you can watch live TV without exceeding your 2-device limit. It’s just a nice way to get a bit of extra flexibility, particularly for people who have larger families.

You Can Get Univision (But Not Galavision) With an OTA Antenna

Unfortunately, Galavision is a cable-only channel. That means unless you have a traditional cable subscription or one of the above recommended internet TV services, you won’t be able to watch it.

But Univision, the parent network of Galavision, is not a cable network. It’s an Over The Air (OTA) network. That means that, like NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and The CW, anyone who has an OTA antenna can pick up the station, and watch it for free.

If you’re looking to watch Spanish-language programming without cable, you may be able to use an OTA antenna to get stations like:

  • Univision
  • Telemundo
  • EstrellaTV
  • Azteca America
  • LATV

The networks that you can get depend on your location. If you live in an area with a large population of Spanish speakers, chances are that you’ll be able to get most – if not all – of these networks, for free, using an OTA antenna. You can check which channels you’ll receive at Antennaweb. For more information about OTA TV, and purchasing and setting up an OTA Antenna, you can take a look at these articles from Flixed:

Why was Galavision Pulled from Sling TV?

It may be a bit surprising that Sling TV, which has a large variety of other Spanish channels like EstrellaTV, Azteca America, ESPN Deportes, NBC Universo, Cine Latino, Cine Sony, Hola TV and quite a few other such channels doesn’t have Galavision or Univision.

Well, this wasn’t always the case. A few years ago, in June 2015, Sling TV did offer Galavision, as well as Univision, UniMas, Flama, Univision Deportes, Telenovelas, Foro TV, and El Rey, through the “Paquete Total” and “Paquete Esencial” packages.

However, according to Sling, these channels had to be removed from the service, as Univision demanded a “massive” rate increase for carrying the channels, and Sling TV did not believe that they could offer the channels at a competitive price.

This may explain why more expensive streaming services, like fuboTV and DirecTV Now, can afford to carry Univision and Galavision. It remains to be seen if Sling TV will add these channels back in the future.
