La Liga– also known as The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División– is the top professional football division in Spain. The league consists of 20 teams. Each season, the four best teams go on to compete for the prestigious Champions League trophy.
In the past, the only way to watch La Liga games and other hard-to-find sports matches was with a cable subscription. The rise of streaming services has changed the game. There are now a wide variety of ways to tune in and watch La Liga matches via the internet. Read on to learn what your best options are.
Who Owns La Liga’s Broadcasting Rights?
Telefonica made headlines last summer when it outbid rival Mediapro and captured the bulk of La Liga’s broadcast rights. According to SportsProMedia, the Spanish multinational telecommunications company paid €3.4 billion. A spokesperson from the company released this statement shortly after securing the deal:
“Telefonica has always defended that the [La Liga] matches are a very attractive content, but that its acquisition had to be carried out at the appropriate price. The offer made by the company meets these parameters.”
Whether or not the new deal will provide more or fewer options for cord-cutters remains to be seen. Currently, only one channel carries La Liga games in the US: beIN Sports. Canadians can watch La Liga games on beIN Sports and DAZN. In the UK, Eleven Sports carries La Liga games.
Streaming Services That Support La Liga
Here is a quick rundown of all the best streaming services that broadcast La Liga games.
fuboTV is considered to be one of the best on-demand streaming solutions for sports fans. With this service, you can watch not only La Liga games but also Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and many other international leagues.
Sports channels you can get through fuboTV include NBCSN, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, the Olympic Channel, Eleven Sports and NBA TV. In addition, fuboTV supports 11 different beIN Sports channels.
Another nice thing about fuboTV is that it now has pretty decent local TV network coverage. FuboTV added new local TV affiliates at the beginning of 2018. Check out the official list of all of FuboTV’s affiliates here.
Plans and channels
fuboTV offers four different plans: fubo, fubo Extra, fubo Latino and fubo Portuguese. Both core plans have the same amount of beIN channels, so you can save money by opting to go with fubo instead of fubo Extra. Both plans have a Sports Plus add-on that lets you get some extra sports channels.
fubo Extra is $10 more expensive, but has a few more channels. If you don’t mind watching in La Liga games in Spanish and you want to save money, you may want to consider going with the fubo Latino plan. It only costs $17.99/month and it comes with two beIN Sports channels.
What else does fuboTV offer?
Since its 2015 debut, fuboTV has expanded its lineup to offer more than just sports entertainment. National Geographic, USA, CNBC, FX, E!, Food Network and HGTV are just a few of the non-sports channels that fuboTV offers.
All fuboTV plans come with a free cloud DVR feature. This lets you record up to 30 hours of programming. Cloud DVR comes in handy when you don’t have time to watch the game live. If you need additional recording time, you can pay $10 and upgrade the DVR to 500 hours.
Like many competing streaming TV services, fuboTV lets you login on two devices at once. If you need better simultaneous streaming support, the $6/month “Family Share” add-on will let you watch on up to three devices at the same time.
fuboTV has apps for iOS and Android, which you can use to catch La Liga action on the go. Other supported devices include Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Apple TV.
The 7-day free trial offer lets you try fuboTV for a week for free. After the 7-day trial period, you can become a paid subscriber and continue using the service if you decide that it meets your needs.

Sling TV’s subscription plans are a little more complicated than fuboTV’s, but they’re also cheaper. Like fuboTV, Sling TV offers all the major beIN Sports channels. What’s more, you can get ESPN through Sling TV. fuboTV doesn’t yet support ESPN.
Plans and channels
Sling TV has two main subscription options: Blue and Orange. Both plans cost $25/month. To max out the number of channels you get, you can opt to buy both plans for $40/month.
Whatever plan you choose, you’ll have to buy the Sports Extra add-on to get access to beIN Sports. The Sports Extra costs $5 if you have Orange. If you don’t have Orange, you have to pay $10 to get the Sports Extra. The Orange version of Sports Extra comes with ESPN, but the Blue version of the Sports Extra does not.
* You get one stream with Sling Orange and up to 3 simultaneous streams with Sling Blue.
What else does Sling TV offer?
Sling TV shines when it comes to customization. Over 70 different add-on packages are available. If you’re an NBA fan, you can buy a tailor-made add-on that will let you watch all your favorite team’s games. Other niche language add-ons cater to people that speak Spanish, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Chinese, French, Dutch, Arabic or Polish. Other add-ons give you more news, comedy or kids channels.
To unlock Sling TV’s cloud DVR feature, you have to pay $5/month extra each month. You can record up to 50 hours of programming with it.
Sling TV’s Blue subscription supports up to three simultaneous streams per account. With Orange, you can only stream on one device at a time.
Devices that work with Sling TV include iOS and Android mobile devices, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Xbox One and some Samsung/LG smart TVs.
Like most streaming services, Sling TV offers a 7-day free trial. The trial gives you full access to whatever features that your plan supports.
If you live in the UK, Austria, Germany, Switzerland or Canada, you may want to consider using DAZN to access La Liga games. DAZN launched in 2016, and it has been accumulating sports broadcast licenses abroad ever since.
DAZN will only give you access to La Liga games if you live outside the US. The service is available in the US, but boxing and MMA are the only sports that it offers in America.
What else does DAZN offer?
As mentioned above, the US version of DAZN is focused around fighting sports. In Canada, DAZN users can watch snooker, NCAA games and NFL matches. Japan-based users can enjoy J.League soccer games in addition to La Liga as well as English Premier League and Champions League matches.
One significant downside of DAZN is that it doesn’t seem to offer any cloud DVR option. There is no mention of any cloud DVR service on the US version of the DAZN website. Unless you can catch the game you want to watch live, you’re probably out of luck.
The DAZN website doesn’t mention anything about simultaneous streaming, either. However, a Reddit user recently posted that the limit is two simultaneous streams per account.
Devices that work with DAZN include Amazon Fire tablets, Android phones and tablets, iPhones, iPads, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV sticks, Android TVs, Apple TVs (4th generation), Google Chromecasts, LG Smart TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, Vizio TVs, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and most Roku devices.
DAZN offers a better free trial compared to competing services. Most streaming services offer a seven-day trial, but DAZN lets you access its streams for a full 30 days.
beIN Sports Connect
Like its name suggests, beIN Sports Connect gives you direct access to beIN Sports channels via the internet. You have to have some type of TV subscription to use it. Fortunately, both Sling TV and fuboTV are compatible. That means that if you get any kind of subscription to either service, you can catch all the La Liga football action that beIN Sports has to offer.
Sling TV just started letting its Sling Latino customers access beIN Sports Connect. Antonio Briceño, beIN SPORTS’ deputy managing director for the U.S. and Canada, explained the significance of the change in a press release:
“The launch of beIN SPORTS CONNECT on Sling TV continues our commitment to making our world-class sports coverage accessible to as many fans as possible. By increasing the reach of our live sports content in collaboration with Sling TV, we have the opportunity to reinforce the strong presence of beIN SPORTS in the Spanish market and serve our audience’s passion and desire to access this content wherever and whenever.”
The downside of beIN Sports Connect is that it doesn’t block out advertisements. On the upside, if you watch the game with beIN Sports Connect instead of with fuboTV or Sling TV, your family will have one extra simultaneous stream to enjoy. The reason: beIN Sports Connect doesn’t count against either services’ simultaneous stream limit.
You can access beIN Sports Connect via your web browser, iOS, Android and Google Chromecast.
Catch More Soccer Action with These Streaming Services
If you’ve signed up with all the brands mentioned above and you still want more soccer action, give these streaming services a try.
Hulu with Live TV. Hulu with Live TV doesn’t broadcast La Liga, but it does support ESPN, Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports Network and Telemundo. ESPN and Fox Sports broadcast Major League Soccer. Telemundo broadcasts English Premier League and FIFA games.
DirecTV Now. Another way to watch Telemundo soccer broadcasts is through DirecTV Now. In addition, DirecTV offers access to Univision. Univision airs Major League Soccer games in Spanish. Other channels that broadcast soccer on DirecTV Now include FOX Sports 1 and NBC Sports Network.
PlayStation Vue. Despite what this service’s name seems to suggest, you don’t need a PlayStation game console to access it. The service offers low-cost access to ESPN, FOX Sports 1, and Telemundo. If you want to catch EPL, MLS, and FIFA action, PlayStation Vue is not a bad option.
YouTube TV. YouTube TV supports four channels that carry soccer games: NBC Sports Network, ESPN, Fox Sports 1, and Telemundo.
Fox Soccer Match Pass. If you only want access to soccer games and you don’t care about getting other channels, you may want to check out Fox Soccer Match Pass. It carries FIFA World Cup games, EPL matches, UEFA Europa League, Bundesliga, and over a dozen more international leagues and competitions.
ESPN+. ESPN+ is a cheap way to watch MLS and a handful of international soccer games that the other ESPN channels don’t broadcast.
Advice and Final Thoughts
The cheapest way to watch La Liga without cable
If you live in the US, the cheapest way to catch La Liga games is with fuboTV. fuboTV’s $17.99/month Latino plan will give you free access to beIN Sports Connect.
The next cheapest way to watch is through Sling TV. If you get the Orange plan and then purchase the Sports Extra add-on, your Sling TV bill will amount to $30 each month after the free trial.
The best deal for sports nuts
If you’re looking to get the most sports action possible through a streaming service, fuboTV’s fubo Extra plan is worth a look.
