If you love golf but you’ve canceled your satellite or cable TV subscription, you’re probably looking for an affordable way to watch NBC Golf without cable. Not sure where to start, or what internet TV streaming services offer NBC Golf? We’re here to help.
Thanks to internet TV services like fuboTV and Sling TV, it’s easy to get NBC Golf, which is also known as the Golf Channel, without paying for cable. In this quick guide, we’ll take a look at the different internet TV services which offer NBC Golf as part of their streaming lineup, and help you pick the service that’s right for you, by discussing their channel packages, features and more. Let’s get started.
fuboTV began as a sports-focused streaming service, so it may come as no surprise that you’ll be able to get NBC Golf without cable with fuboTV, as well as quite a few other nice-to-have sports channels. Get the full details now.
Channels and packages
fuboTV has two primary channel packages; fubo, which costs $45/month, and fubo Extra, which costs $50/month.
NBC Golf comes in both of these cable packages. The fubo package has a total of 80+ channels.
Beyond NBC Golf, you’ll also get NBCSN, Fox Sports channels, NBA TV, NFL Network, beIN Sports, and a huge variety of other sports channels, as well as some news and entertainment networks. For $5/month more, the fubo Extra package provides you with 100+ channels.
fuboTV doesn’t really impress on price, but it does have NBC Golf and a number of other sports networks, with the notable absence of ESPN and related networks, like ESPNews.
fuboTV has reasonably good features, although they’re nothing to write home about. You can record up to 30 hours of content with a free cloud DVR. If that’s not enough space, you can get 500 hours of storage for with a $10/month Enhanced DVR package.
As far as simultaneous streams go, you can watch on only 2 devices at once by default, which is pretty typical for the industry. You can upgrade to 3 devices with a $6/month “Family Share” add-on, though.
Device support for fuboTV is pretty good, too. You can watch on your web browser and on iOS/Android devices, as well as Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast. If you’d like to try fuboTV and watch NBC Golf without cable, you can get a free trial on its website now, and see if you like this service.
Sling TV was the very first internet TV company and was founded in early 2015. Today, it’s owned by DISH Network, and while its “a la carte” approach gives you plenty of options when it comes to picking your channels, it can also get confusing if you’re not careful.
Channels and packages
Sling TV has two primary channel packages, which are called Sling Blue and Sling Orange. You can subscribe to either one individually for $25/month or combine them for $40/month.
* You get one stream with Sling Orange and up to 3 simultaneous streams with Sling Blue.
Each package comes with different channels. Sling Orange, for example, has ESPN and Disney-owned channels, while Sling Blue has Fox Sports and NBC Golf.
You won’t get NBC Golf by default, though. You’ll need to subscribe to Sling Blue and the $10/month “Sports Extra” add-on package. With this package, you can watch NBC Golf without cable, and you’ll also get a number of other great sports channels, including NHL Network, NFL RedZone, Outside TV, and beIN Sports.
Overall, you’ll pay $35 ($25 for Sling Blue and $10 month for Sports Extra) to watch NBC Golf without cable using Sling TV. That makes it the cheapest option on our list, but not by much.
The features of Sling TV vary based on your package. Sling Orange channels can only be streamed on a single device, for example, while Sling Blue channels can be streamed on up to 3 devices.
Since you’ll be subscribing to Sling Blue to get NBC Golf, you’ll be able to stream on 3 devices at once, which is better than some other options on this list, like DirecTV Now and Hulu With Live TV.
You won’t get a cloud DVR for free, though. Although Sling recently introduced a beta DVR that offers 20 hours of free storage, it’s unclear how long this will last. You have to pay a $5/month fee to get a 50-hour cloud DVR.
Platform support for Sling TV is good, though. You can stream on iOS and Android, on web browsers, and on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast, as well as the Xbox One and select LG and Samsung Smart TVs. If you’d like to try it for yourself and see if it’s a good option to watch NBC Golf without cable, you can get a free trial from Sling TV now.
Hulu + Live TV first was launched in 2017 and has quickly become one of the most popular options for cord-cutters. It recently experienced a price hike but is still a good way to watch NBC Golf without cable.
Channels and packages
Hulu + Live TV recently jumped in price from $40/month to $45/month. For that price, you’ll get about 60-70 channels, depending on your location, and a subscription to the Hulu on-demand service, with ads. If you’d like to eliminate ads from Hulu on-demand, you can pay $51/month. You will still have to watch ads on live TV broadcasts, however.
With your subscription, you will get NBC Golf as well as a number of other sports channels, including ESPN, Fox Sports, NBCSN, and a number of other entertainment and news networks.
Hulu + Live TV has reasonably good features, and they can both be upgraded. You get a free, 50-hour cloud DVR with your subscription. If that’s not enough storage space, you can get 200 hours with a $10/month Enhanced DVR add-on.
You can watch on 2 devices at once by default with Hulu + Live TV, and stream on unlimited devices in your home network and on up to 3 at once outside your home network with the $10/month Unlimited Screens add-on. You can combine Unlimited Screens and Enhanced DVR for $15/month.
As far as platform support goes, Hulu + Live TV is quite impressive. Naturally, there is support for web browsers and iOS/Android devices, as well as Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast. The Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles are also supported, as are some Samsung and LG smart TVs.
YouTube TV was launched by Google in late 2017 and has quickly become a go-to option for cord-cutters due to its good list of channels, low price, and fantastic features.
Channels and packages
YouTube TV keeps things simple. If you want to watch NBC Golf without cable, you’ll get it through YouTube TV’s single subscription package. For $40/month, you’ll get 60+ channels, including NBC Golf, NBCSN, ESPN, Fox Sports, and a number of other sports, news, and entertainment channels.
YouTube TV truly stands out from the competition when it comes to features. The DVR is the biggest draw. You can record up to 9 months of content, with no other restrictions, and you can create up to 6 user accounts, each of which gets its own DVR.
You can also stream on 3 devices at once, matching Sling Blue, and beating Hulu + Live TV, fuboTV and DirecTV Now.
Device support for YouTube TV used to be weak, but has improved over the last year or so. Now, you can watch on Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, and the Xbox One, as well as some Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Hisense, VIZIO, and Sharp.
PlayStation Vue, by Sony, is a good way to watch NBC Golf without cable if you have a large family, due to its family-friendly DVR and simultaneous streaming features. And, despite what you may think because of the name, you don’t need a PlayStation to use this internet TV service.
Channels and packages
PlayStation Vue gives you four different channel packages to choose from, as follows:
Access – 45 channels, $45/month
Core – 60 channels, $50/month
Elite – 84 channels, $60/month
Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month
If you want to watch NBC Golf without cable, you’ll have to subscribe to the $50/month Core package or higher, so this makes PlayStation Vue the second-most expensive choice, behind only DirecTV Now.
While PlayStation Vue is quite expensive compared to some of our other picks like Sling TV, it does have some family-friendly features which make it a good option for some cord-cutters.
The best feature of PlayStation Vue is that it offers a 5-device simultaneous streaming policy, which is great for larger families. This is the best simultaneous streaming policy of any internet TV service, excluding Hulu + Live TV and the Unlimited Screens package, which costs an extra fee.
PlayStation Vue also has pretty good device support. As you might expect, you can watch it on the PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles, as well as your web browser, and iOS/Android devices. You can also watch on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.
DirecTV Now is owned by AT&T, and was started as an attempt to reclaim cord-cutters with a more inexpensive, commitment-free internet TV service. And while it’s a reasonably good way to watch NBC Golf without cable, it is a bit lacking when it comes to features, and you’ll have to pony up quite a bit of cash for the service.
Channels and packages
DirecTV Now, like PlayStation Vue, gives you four different channel packages to choose from, as follows.
Live A Little – 65+ channels, $40/month
Just Right – 85+ channels, $55/month
Go Big – 105+ channels, $65/month
Gotta Have It – 125+ channels, $75/month
Unfortunately, to get NBC Golf, you’ll have to pay $65/month for the Go Big package, which puts DirecTV Now close to the cost of a traditional cable subscription. You’ll get 105+ channels for your money, which is great, but the price of DirecTV Now may just be a bit too high for some cord-cutters.
DirecTV Now has struggled to compete with other internet TV services when it comes to features in the past, and this is, unfortunately, still the case – particularly with the DirecTV Now DVR.
Until late last year, DirecTV Now didn’t offer a DVR to customers at all. Today, though, DirecTV Now does provide subscribers with a cloud DVR, but it’s very limited, with only 20 hours of storage, and a 30-day storage limit.
Simultaneous streaming is a bit better, with two simultaneous streams supported, and a third available for a $5/month fee, which is about on par with other streaming services.
DirecTV Now does have good device support, however. You can watch on iOS and Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Apple TV, and Roku.
NBC Golf Website and Apps
If you subscribe to one of the above services, you can watch NBC Golf via the NBC Golf website, or NBC Golf iOS and Android apps, using your internet TV login.
You can log into NBC Golf app or website using Sling TV, DirecTV Now, Hulu, and PlayStation Vue. Strangely, YouTube TV and fuboTV are not supported as internet providers by NBC Golf, so keep this in mind when subscribing to one of the above services.
Why should you bother doing this, when you could just watch NBC Golf without cable directly on the app of your streaming service of choice, like Sling TV?
The main reason is that, when you log into the NBC Golf app or website to watch TV, this does not count against your simultaneous streams. In other words, if you have DirecTV Now, you could stream on the NBC Golf app, and 2 other people could still stream content using your DirecTV Now subscription. It’s a nice way to get a bit of extra flexibility if you have a larger household.
