What Channels do I Need to Watch the Washington Nationals Online?

watch the washington nationals online without cable MASN

Not sure what you can expect from this year’s Washington Nationals broadcast schedule? Curious to find out what channels you’ll need to watch the Washington Nationals online? Here’s a quick breakdown of the channels on which you’ll be able to watch the Nationals this year.

  • MASN – 89 games
  • MASN2 – 69
  • ESPN – 2 games (1 simulcast with MASN)
  • FOX – 3 games

As you can see, MASN, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, is a must-have for watching the Washington Nationals online without cable. However, there’s some bad news for cord-cutters.

While most regional Sports Networks, like Fox Sports and NBC Sports networks, are available on online streaming services like PlayStation Vue, fuboTV, and Sling TV, MASN and MASN2 are not. MASN has not signed a deal to have its channels carried on any internet TV services.

In other words, even if you live in the broadcast region where you can get Washington Nationals games, you won’t be able to watch them without a traditional cable subscription, because MASN has not kept up with the times and refuses to be carried on internet TV services.

So, while you can watch all 5 nationally broadcast Washington Nationals games online using an internet TV service, you won’t be able to watch the rest of the games that air on MASN and MASN2.

Still, you’re not totally out of luck. Below, we’ll discuss the options that you have for watching the Washington Nationals online when they’re playing nationally-televised games.

Then we’ll talk about MLB.TV, which is probably the best option for watching the Washington Nationals online without cable, especially for those of you who live out-of-market for Nationals games.

watch the washington nationals online without cable fubotv

fuboTV is a sports-focused streaming service, so it has most of the channels you’ll need to watch the MLB, and even a few nationally broadcast Washington Nationals games. Let’s get into the details now.

Channels & packages

fuboTV comes in two primary channel packages, as you can see below:

The $45/month fubo package comes with Fox, so you’ll be able to watch the 3 nationally-televised Washington Nationals games that are being aired on that network this year. Unfortunately, neither the $45/month fubo or $50/month fubo Extra package come with ESPN, so you’ll miss out on those games. Still, fuboTV has a number of other great sports channels for MLB fans, like TBS, Fox Sports 1 and 2, and quite a few other such channels, so it’s still a viable option.

Features

With fuboTV, you’ll get pretty standard features for an internet TV service. You can watch on up to 2 devices at once by default, and you can watch the Washington Nationals online on up to 3 devices if you pay $6/month extra for a “Family Share” add-on.

You also get a 30-hour free cloud DVR. That’s not too much space, but fuboTV does have a 72-hour rewind feature which will allow you to watch most recently-aired programs within 72 hours of when they aired, which helps mitigate the low storage capacity.

As far as device support goes, fuboTV supports iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as most modern web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. You can give it a try now with a free week-long trial, and see if it’s right for you.

watch the washington nationals without cable sling tv

Sling TV was one of the very first internet TV services, and it offers a variety of different channel packages and extras, allowing you to build your own custom subscription. Get more information now, and see if Sling TV is right for you.

Channels & packages

Sling TV has two primary channel packages, called Sling Orange and Sling Blue.

Sling Orange Sling Blue Sling Orange + Blue
Price $25 $25 $40
Channels 30+ 40+ 50+
Simultaneous Streams 1 3 4*
ESPN Yes No Yes
Fire TV Support Yes Yes Yes
Roku Support Yes Yes Yes
Special Offers FREE ROKU DEAL FREE ROKU DEAL FREE ROKU DEAL

* You get one stream with Sling Orange and up to 3 simultaneous streams with Sling Blue.

Each package costs $25, and you can combine both to save money, and get Sling Orange + Blue for $40/month.

If you want to watch the Washington Nationals online when they play nationally-broadcast games, you’ll need Sling Orange + Blue, because ESPN is exclusive to Sling Orange, while Fox is only available on Sling Blue. In addition to ESPN and Fox, you’ll get a wide variety of entertainment, sports, lifestyle and news channels with Sling Orange + Blue.

Features

Sling TV has some interesting quirks. First, the DVR is not free. You’ll have to pay $5/month, so that bumps the price up a bit more. For your $5/month, you’ll get 50 hours of storage, which is reasonable. Sling TV also has a 72-hour rewind service that can be used on most devices, so 50 hours is enough for most people.

Simultaneous streaming is a bit more complex. Sling Orange channels, like ESPN, can only ever be viewed on a single device, while Sling Blue channels, like Fox, can be viewed on up to 3 devices at once. These limits apply even if you get Sling Orange + Blue – you can still only ever watch ESPN and Sling Orange on a single device.

Device support for Sling TV is pretty good. You can watch Sling TV on your iOS and Android devices, as well as web browsers, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Chromecast. Other supported devices include AirTV Player, Xbox One, and some Samsung and LG smart TVs. You can get a free trial at the Sling website now, if you’d like to try it out for yourself.

watch the washington nationals online without cable playstation vue

PlayStation Vue, by Sony, has had difficulties attracting a large subscriber base, but it’s a great way to watch the Washington Nationals online and enjoy the MLB, especially if you have a larger family.

Channels & packages

PlayStation Vue comes in four primary packages, as follows:

  • Access – 45+ channels, $45/month
  • Core – 60+ channels, $50/month
  • Elite – 90+ channels, $60/month
  • Ultra – All Elite channels plus HBO/Showtime, $80/month

You can choose which package you’d like, based on the number of channels you want, and your budget. To watch the Washington Nationals online, you’ll only need the cheapest Access package, which comes with ESPN and Fox.

Features

PlayStation Vue has some great features, particularly for larger households. The simultaneous streaming policy is the best around, allowing you to stream on up to 5 devices at one time for no additional fee. This is the best of any internet TV service out there.

The DVR is also pretty good, allowing you to record as much content as you want for up to 28 days, with no other storage limits or restrictions. This is a bit limiting if you like to record a lot of content, but it’s enough for most people.

As far as platform support goes, you can watch PlayStation Vue on the PlayStation 3 and 4, and also on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. If you’d like to try it for yourself, you can get a free 5-day free trial from PlayStation Vue now.

watch the washington nationals without cable hulu with live tv

Hulu + Live TV has a great package of channels at a reasonable price and has quickly become a favorite internet TV service for cord-cutters since it launched in 2017.

Channels & packages

Hulu + Live TV has two basic channel packages to choose from. The Hulu + Live TV subscription costs $45/month and comes with 60+ channels, as well as a free ad-supported subscription to the Hulu on-demand service.

The $51/month Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV package includes all of the same channels and a subscription to the Hulu on-demand service. The only difference is that you won’t see ads on on-demand content. Live content will still have ads.

You’ll get ESPN and Fox with Hulu + Live TV, so you’ll have what you need to watch the Washington Nationals online when they’re playing nationally-broadcast games.

Features

Hulu + Live TV has pretty good features, which can be upgraded for additional monthly fees. You can stream on up to 2 devices at once, or purchase the Unlimited Screens package for $10/month, and stream on 3 devices outside your home network, and on unlimited devices on your WiFi network.

The DVR is free and comes with 50 hours of storage. You can pay $10/month for the Enhanced DVR package, which boosts your storage capacity to 200 hours. You can combine both Enhanced DVR and Unlimited Screens for $15/month.

Hulu + Live TV also has really good device support. You’ll be able to watch the Washington Nationals on iOS, Android, web browsers, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. Other supported devices include the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles, as well as some smart TVs from Samsung and LG.

watch the washington nationals online without cable youtube tv

YouTube TV, by Google, combines a solid lineup of channels with some of the best features in the business, making it a great option for cord-cutters.

Channels & packages

YouTube TV keeps things very simple, with a single package of 60+ channels, which costs $40/month. For your money, you’ll get Fox and ESPN, so you can watch all of the Nationals games that will be broadcast on these two networks this MLB season.

Features

YouTube TV has really good features. You can watch on up to 3 devices at once, which ties with Sling Blue. Only PlayStation Vue lets you stream on more devices by default for no extra fee.

The DVR is also incredible. You can record and store as much content as you want for up to 9 months, without any other limits and restrictions. You can also create up to 6 total user accounts, and each one gets its own DVR.

Platform and device support is also great. You can watch YouTube TV on iOS, Android, and the Chrome web browser while you’re on-the-go. At home, you can watch it on Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, the Xbox One, as well as select smart TVs from Hisense, Samsung, LG, VIZIO, and Sharp. There is no Amazon Fire TV app, though.

watch the washington nationals online without cable directv now

DirecTV Now is the most expensive option on our list, thanks to a recent price hike, and a change in their channel packages. While the channels are decent, the high cost and poor features make it a bad choice for most cord-cutters.

Channels & packages

DirecTV Now offers two-channel packages:

  • Plus: 40+ channels / $50 per month.
  • Max: 50+ channels / $70 per month.
  • Entertainment: 65+ channels / $93 per month.
  • Choice: 85+ channels / $110 per month.
  • Xtra: 105+ channels /  $124 per month.
  • Ultimate: 125+ channels / $135 per month

To watch the Washington Nationals online, you’ll only need the cheapest DirecTV Now Plus plan, which comes with ESPN and Fox.

Features

DirecTV Now has always been behind the curve when it comes to features, particularly when it comes to its DVR. You do get a cloud DVR with your subscription, but you are limited to just 20 hours of content, which is automatically deleted after 30 days. That’s the worst DVR on the market.

Simultaneous streaming is a bit better, though. You can stream on up to 2 devices at once, and add a third stream for an additional $5/month fee.

DirecTV Now also supports most major streaming platforms and devices, including web browsers, iOS and Android devices, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.

watch the washington nationals online without cable mlb.tv

Obviously, the above options are not ideal if you’re a cord-cutter living in the Washington Nationals market. You’ll only get a fraction of the games the Nationals play this year.

So, what’s a better option? MLB.TV is a decent alternative, though it’s not perfect if you live in the DC area, and are in the Nationals broadcast market.

MLB.TV allows you to choose a single team to follow for $92/year, or you can get access to out-of-market games from every MLB team for $119/year or $25/month. What’s the catch?

You can only watch out-of-market games live. That means if you don’t live in the DC area, you can watch just about every Washington Nationals game live because you’re out of the broadcast market for Nationals games.

However, if you live in the Nationals market, you’ll be blocked from watching Nationals games until 90 minutes after they have concluded. That’s why this is not an ideal choice for those who live in the Nationals broadcast market.

If you don’t live near DC, though, MLB.TV is definitely the best way to watch the Washington Nationals online without cable. For a low yearly cost, you can watch every Nationals game live, though national broadcast blackouts still apply.
